SUBSTANCE ESPRESSO
Substance is my little haven in a very busy world. I’m always greeted with, Hi Liz, which usual is it today? The reason for this is that I alternate between, their V60 pour over filtered coffee $5, a piccolo $3.50 or a small latte extra shot $4.00.
I love that they know what I want even down to the fact that they often go to tell me the specials and sometimes preface it with, there is nothing you would order today Liz, just get your favourite omelette…
The table water is complementary still or sparkling water, which is always a nice change after usually having to pay stacks of money for sparking water!
They are open for brunch 7 days a week between 7am and 2pm and are located opposite KFC outside the Runaway Bay Shopping Centre.
You can get the usual breakfast fair like eggs on toast, however it is on the most delicious real sourdough bread. Lovely variations of the usual are also abundant on this all day menu, like their eggs benny coming on house made hash browns or their banana bread with maple butter. Their salads and other delicious “brunch” menu items will have you coming back for more, just so you can try the karage chicken salad and the corn and zucchini fritters or maybe the kale trail or even something sweet like this apple crumble waffle below!
But the best thing is they also change the menu a couple of times a year as well as their daily specials (although they keep the staples) so that you don’t get board and can keep ordering something new each time.
Now for drinks, because you know how important coffee is to me. The fact that I alternate different regular coffees tells you how good they are because everything I order is perfect every time. Jareth (one on the owners) spends most if his time behind the coffee machine and it’s a good thing too, but everyone else who works the machine never disappoints.
The iced latte above is a self pour drink, so you can make it weak or strong depending on how much coffee you use. Substance espresso also offer a lovely range of freshly made juices and drinks
as well as a selection of small treats, I can thoroughly recommend their carrot cake as well as their keto treats!
Substance is a beautiful decorated space, you can sit inside (with aircon) or outside in the breeze. I hope you enjoy this wonderful cafe as much as I do when I go and don’t forget to say hi to Leah and Jareth and tell them I sent you!
