Continuing our “Other end of the Gold Coast” theme. We have found a little gem here at the South End of the Coast. You will find this cute cafe at 2 Goodman Close Highland Park. Have a look at their Website HERE and their Facebook Page.
They serve Merlo Coffee. Now you know I am not a fan of this coffee or any generic brand coffees at all, but I must say that the barista’s are obviously very good, as the coffee was nice… I even had 2, so that is saying something! They offer Organic Teas and are open for Breakfast and Lunch everyday. Monday to Friday they have a 5 am start so you can pick up your coffee on the way to work, but they close on Saturday and Sunday at 2pm so at least they get 2 afternoons off a week. 🙂
Attached to the cafe is a small gift shop with a selection of mirrors, frames, jewellery and candles as well as raw bush honey from the blue mountains and a nice sections of cute knickknacks.
They have the usual standard Gold Coast Breakfast fair such as Bacon and eggs, pancakes etc… with gluten-free and diary free options. The lunch menu looks tasty and since finding this cafe, I have bene back several times for lunch and everything was delicious particularly the chips! They have a BYO Licence, so you could even have a little tipple at lunch time if you choose.
The savoury Bagel with Cream Cheese, Smoked Salmon, Spanish Onion, Capers and Lettuce $9.90. This was delicious and the perfect balance of everything
Sophia chose the Eggs Benny $16.50 and she was very happy with the hollandaise and scraped the plate as she proclaimed it was delicious!
Tania chose the sweet option with Pancakes with mixed berry compote and maple $14.90, but she was a bit disappointed, saying they tasted a bit dense and they seems reheated and not made fresh to order.
Coffee $3 for a piccolo is a bargain.
A Flat White for Sophia
And a LARGE Cap for Tanya finished off our breakfast experience. The coffees where a bit strong for the girls (not me) so they needed a bit of a top up with some extra hot milk that the staff happily provided.
They even have a lending library so if you are having some time out, you can have a read and if you like the book, take it home, but please make sure you return it the next time you visit!
The staff are friendly and accommodating, answering all the questions that only a food blogger can ask. The cafe is just off the highway at Highland park and definitely worth dropping into. It can get very busy at times, but the food and coffee comes fast with a smile!
Or maybe you would like to just pop in for a coffee and something sweet! They have a wonderful selection of homemade cakes, biscuits and slices, that are very well priced.
Our scores for today.
Drinks | Food | Service | Atmosphere | |
Tanya | 7 | 8 | 8 | 9 |
Sophia | 7 | 8 | 8 | 10 |

…. I just came back to do a spot of drooling Liz… here on the island the coffee is OKish & I’m having such an amazing working holiday experience. BUT…. Oh boy, there is a but already…. I MISS me a good coffee hangout, so I’m just back snooping around having a virtual pig out – don’t mind me lol!!!
you are too cute… I’m having a bit of a website upgrade by a really lovely friend, so haven’t been able to see comment for a while… I’m so glad that you are enjoying your job! So does that mean I need to bring a nespresso machine with me when I come?

BTW lovely how do we find your latest posts? I can only really see the older ones that I’ve already read.
I’m not sure… on the computer the latest ones are flashing through photos… Umm but I haven’t done any for a while as I have been so busy with my Thermomix business and my new man 🙂 just click on a picture and then pic a topic… I’m sure there is plenty 🙂
Thanks for being so lovely! Liz xx
Ooh how satisfying is a plate of really good eggy benny! 😀
Yep, definitely not enough of them around! xx
Oh my goodness, what a totally gorgeous little nook to stop for a cuppa. I am in love with the rustic chic look, that chandelier is beautiful! Its nearly lunch time, thinking I might see if someone in Parliament House can make me one of those delicious looking bagels. How good is smoked salmon with creamed cheese. #drool
