So it is time for an update on the excellent adventures of Tan, Sim and Liz (like the Bill and Ted reference š as it was Bill and Ted’s day yesterday) and ourĀ love of, well hanging out really. Tan is a half strength girl and Sim doesn’t drink coffee at all, I’m the only one who drinks serious coffee, but we all love good food and good company and really at the end of the day it’s just about us getting together because we can!
The Elk in Broadbeach was coffee stop #3… (See #1 and #2 HEREĀ and HERE)
Well, Ā actually, we were going to go to Black Lyric Coffee but it was closed!(but that’s another story) So Elk it was! They don’t have a website, but they do have a Facebook page that looks like it hasn’t really been updated! It doesn’t matter, this place is wonderful! I know I keep saying that (and I’m not being paid to say it) these coffee place are all great, but obviously there is a reason that all theseĀ place are in the top 10 coffee shops in theĀ Bulletin.Ā Firstly this cafe is situated at 16 Chelsea St, Broadbeach…

Yes I stood in the middle of the road to take this
It’s in the middle of a few apartment blocks and a short walk from the beach. The parking is free and across the road, but I’m sure that it would be at a premium on the weekends.
It is a Monday and the cafe is full of women; joggers, mums and bubs and the Gold Coast Ladies that lunch (I guess that includes me today!) Tan and Sim are meeting me for lunch as they didn’t do #2 with me and we needed a catch up! I walked in and was greeted with a friendly smile and a “sit anywhere you are comfortable”. The funky industrial deco with flowers on the walls and a picture of an ELKĀ looking cool on a peeling paint wall and fresh flowers on the table made it feel like home and if you accidentally spilt anything, it would be ok!

Funky Flowers and Copper Pipe Decor

The Main Attraction
I arrived early so I could sample a coffee before the girls arrived and have a chat with the very friendly and cheerfulĀ waitress. When I told her about my blog and the coffee shops of the Gold Coast she recommend a few that we MUST visitĀ and was very informative and helpful!

The Table
My first coffee of the day was a single roast long black! I don’t take sugar in my coffee, but even if you did you wouldn’t need much as this coffee was sweet, smooth with a delicate balanced flavour and only $3.60. It also had a spectacular creme’ that made my day! This coffee was worth the 30 minutes drive all by itself.
Because I arrived a bit early the breakfast menu was still available for 15 mins, so I took a sneak peek and was pleasantly surprised. I think that there will be a trip back Ā to try the “Pulled Byron Bay Pork with Spicy Mixed Beans” or the “Rye and Sunflower Seed Bagel with Tetsuya Smoked Trout, Creme’ Fraiche, Avocado and Watercress or your choice or Sweet or Savoury French Toast! Honestly, what’s not to like?

Funky Water Station
Tan and Sim arrive and so does the waitress to take their coffee orders. Tan is impress with her half strength mugachino and Sim says that her skinny hot chocolate is delicious and not too sweet, unfortunately they both comment on the fact that the milk could have been a little hotter, so not really a perfect cuppa! The usual catch up ensues so the menus aren’t even looked at when the waitress comes to take our orders. Eventually we order.
Tan has the Beetroot and Sheep Cheese Vego Burger with Avocado and Fries

Vego Burger
Sim ordered the Beetroot and Cauliflower Salad with Lemon Thyme Lebnah, Avocado and Heirloom Tomatoes.
I ordered the Cauliflower Croquettes with Tetsuya Smoked Trout, Herb Creme’ Fresh with Radish and Cucumber Salad.
Yes I know my photo taking skills are bad, but I will try to get better! Or I will have to pay tan, who is a fabulous amateur photographer with an amazing INSTAGRAM page you should check out! @tan1010
In the end, the plates were all empty, our tummies were full and the food had 6 thumbs up! I was surprised at how flavoursome the cauliflower croquettes were and how well all the flavours of the salad and the Creme’ Fraiche merged.
Like always we sat and chatted and got our extra 10,000 words in for the day talking about food, recipes, kids, chickens, chicken pox, my blog, my Thermomix business, new cars and the of course the very high standard of the coffee and food. So much talking left room for a little more so Sim and I indulged ourselves with a little something sweet. I had the second best decaffeinated Iced Coffee. The best one being atĀ My Local BlogĀ that you could also check out!
And Sim enjoyed (we all had a taste) of the OMG slice. It was a chocolate hazelnut, chewy coconut slice. While it was delicious, it wasn’t exactly an OMG experience, but it is a cool name!
AGAIN, the coffee was great, the food was tasty and reasonably priced for the quality and the atmosphere and deco was funky and fun! Thanks for reading!
Enjoy Irresponsibly!

Now this is my kind of review. I would totally drive 3 hours to visit this place based on your thoughts and the pictures. I especially love the flower wall, we are looking at putting one on our back porch, so pretty. š
Yes it really is a great place…. If you are ever in Broadbeach, Queensland you should stop by! Liz xx
I love your coffee shop reviews, and this place sounds great even if the milk temperature was a bit lacking. The flower wall is gorgeous too!
Thanks Kari! My coffees were perfect! I can’t wait for my next adventure!
I love Broadbeach. I’ve had many holidays at that beach and they’ve all been wonderful. It’s good to know there’s a lot of options for cafes serving great coffee xx
Yes Charlie, the two I have visited so far are very good… A friend of mine (a barista) has also informed me of a third, so it is on the go to list as well!
