Finding the Best Coffee – Eat + – Helensvale

Eat+ Cafe

What feels like a life time ago, Tan, Sim and Myself decided to try out some coffee shops on the Top Ten Coffee list as voted by Gold Coast residence. So the Top Ten Team was born…

What started out as a great way to find some good coffee has turned into a regular Tuesday morning coffee and chat. Now, I have been friends with Tan since High school and met Sim though Tan, but I have to say, it is a wonderful thing meeting someone every week for coffee and chatting about their life, what they do, their dreams, what they hope for the future, their husbands, their kids etc…

I am so thankful that my blog has afforded me the opportunity to have this wonderful time with these amazing woman, so even if the coffee isn’t that great, or the food is just average or visa versa. The experience of sitting in a cafe, having time with friends who are very special to me really makes every cafe special in its own way!

EAT+ Cafe at Helensvale is situated at 4 Sir John Overall Drive, right next to the Helensvale Tavern. There is plenty of parking (unlike trying to get a park at Helensvale Westfield) and it really is a lovely spot, that if you have been driving past would have missed it. They are getting wonderful reviews for their coffee and food and so they should too! Why don’t you check out their FACEBOOK PAGE HERE.

It is great to have such a fabulous little cafe down this neck of the woods (northern end) that serves great coffee and wonderful food. I have been there a few times now as they offer free wi-fi and when you are a blogger, free wi-fi is gold, especially when it comes with coffee that I can drink!

As usual, I had the piccolo, double shot and it was delicious and smooth. The coffee blend is made for Queensland humidity and you can tell.

Eat+ Cafe

Double shot piccolo – $4.70

This little cafe has become Tan’s local, hence the Top Ten Team visit and the reason is, not only do they have a large coffee, which Tan always enjoys, but their large isn’t really large, it is a bowl!!!!!!!! of coffee, sort of like a “Betty Blue” it is enormous.

Eat+ Cafe

Bowl of coffee $4.70 and yes that is the A4 menu dwarfed behind it.

While I would never be envious of that much milky coffee, it is concerning that my beautiful double shot piccolo and her huge bowl of coffee cost the same. I guess you still pay for quality in this day and age.

Sim had her usual, but said that her skinny hot chocolate was ok, but not really hot enough. It was very pretty and served with marshmallows, that Sim doesn’t like, I mean seriously, who doesn’t like marshmallows??? Except maybe another blogger friend Anna??? I will never understand that!

Skinny Hot Chocolate $4.90

Then the food. They have a good selection of your average breakfast food, plus something a little extra, as well as a specials board that changes every day.

Tan hadn’t eaten this day and chose the Mushroom pate, stack with turkish bread fingers, smoked salmon, wilted spinach and tomato and basil oil. She said it was absolutely delicious. I must confess that I had been to the cafe a week before and ordered the same thing, and it was indeed sumptuous!

Eat+ Cafe

Mushroom Pate with Smoked Salmon $13.50

Sim had already eaten breakfast and ordered the Almond and Orange Cake. She said it was a very light cake, but was a bit dry…. Sim didn’t seem to be having a great order day today! It came out beautifully presented with a nice dollop of cream though…

Eat+ Cafe

$5.20 notice, no fork stuck in it this week!

I ordered the breakfast burritos, which was also very tasty… It is a real art, getting just the right balance of cheese, bacon, egg and relish, so I was very impressed when I took my first bite and it is something that I would have made exactly them same way. I didn’t even have to put any salt and pepper on it, so that speaks volumes to me. I spoke with the chef and told him so and he just had a big smile on his face, saying “it is always great when someone appreciates the little things in my food, it took me a while to get it just right.”

Eat+ Cafe

Near perfect breakfast burritos $11.90

So all up, a very nice cafe if you order coffee and food, almond cake… maybe not???

I also must mention that they use and sell the most beautiful artisan sourdough, which just had flour water, salt and starter in it and taste like it is made with love and care.

So if you live in the area, or even if you don’t, give this great little cafe a whirl. The staff are super friendly and the service was without fault! The Chef can obviously cook and the barista know what they are doing! I look forward to trying a few things off the special menu in the weeks to come!

Thanks for reading… Is there a cafe that you would like me to visit and give review of? Why don’t you let me know and we will see what we can do! I look forward to hearing from you!

Enjoy Irresponsibly!!
